who killed mozart

Or rather what?

Now a group of Dutch researchers has suggested that he died from a bacterial infection spread by soldiers which was rife in Vienna at the time.

Given his symptoms this sounds very likely to be the case.

Rheumatic fever
Uremia
Kidney failure
Syphillis
Complications from kidney stones
Dropsy
Henoch-Schoenlein-purpura
Rheumatoid arthritis
Endocarditis
Food poisoning
Poisoning by aqua toffana
Poisoning by mercury

- All these, and a lot more, have been listed as the possible cause of Mozart's death. His body is unavailable for further research. This is one of the things we will probably never know. Maybe we should let him rest in peace, and his sublime music live on.
